The First Day of School

The first day of school was July 29th.  But the kids first day was the 30th.  If you want to read a really long story down below I can fill you in on the details of getting the kids registered.  Such a pain!!!

Jackson's fisrt day of Second Grade

Conrad's First Day of Forth Grade

Hailey's First Day of Fifth Grade
The first day of school went pretty well for the kids.  Hailey and Jack loved it although they said there weren't enough toys.  Conrad had a harder time because he couldn't find a friend.  It's almost been two weeks since they started.  It has been an adjustment.  They are now all doing pretty well now and all have someone to play with.

The first day of school the kids all came home saying you don't have to wear shoes at recess or class.  Really the only time you have to wear your shoes is at lunch.  Our kids still wear their shoes but most kids go around bare foot all the time.
Here's part of the school it goes K-6.  There are quite a few buildings.  It's all outdoor.

Here's the one and only play set.  The kids feel a bit ripped off.  They have awesome play sets at home.

Here's the registration novel so I don't forget our great welcome to Laie Elementry. :(

It all started when I checked out Laie Elementry online a few months ago and saw they started the end of July!  I knew things were going to be busy for us so called Laie Elementry to see what I needed to bring to get the kids registered.  They told me I had to have the birth certificate, a physical exam, immunization record, a TB test, and proof of residency.  Sounds easy right?

So I decided I'd get it all done so we'd be ready to register the kids when we got there.  We scheduled two appointments in I.F. for the exam and TB test.  Then after each appointment we got to drive back to I.F. to get their arm checked.  Of course, they were fine.  But it was just a part of the process.  I made sure to get all of the documentation from the Dr. so I had it when we got there.  I packed it all nice and made sure I knew where it was so I could get them registered right after we got there because we wouldn't be able to unpack before I had to register them.

Well, we made it here and I called the school.  They told me great, you have everything you need you just need to have that info transferred to this certain form and have a doctor here sign it.  So, I go in a couple days later since it was an hour away from where we were to get the form.  I scheduled an appointment with a doctor that an aquantance told me she liked.  It took a couple of days to get in.

So, this is two days before the school is suppose to start.  I get to the doctor after a 45 minute drive.  I fill out all the forms for the three kids and get taken back to the exam room.  The doctor comes in and tells me they can't fill out this form because they didn't do the exam.  They said they would do an exam but of course the insurance wouldn't pay for it.  I didn't want to pay for 3 new patient exams so we left.  But, I did really like the doctor though.

So, that appointment was at the end of the day.  I went in to the school the next morning to let them know the situation.  The first thing they tell me is the they don't think the TB test done on the mainland is going to work. I just about broke down at that point.  This was just rediculous.  Nobody knew what was going on and I was sick of it.  But, I gained my composure and she grabbed someone who knew more.  They tell me that if I get the immunization record straight from the doctor too we should be good (I had brought my cards).  So, they let me use their fax and I call the doctor to get the records sent to them.  They tell me I haven't filled out a release for the records (even though I had a month before).  They send the school the release.  I sign it and send it back.  Then they send over the immunization record.  After about and hour, they had what they needed and they said they were set.

An hour after I get home, I get a phone call letting me know that my kids can't be registered because this form isn't filled out.  I proceed to tell her everything that has happened and that my kids do not need another physical when they just had one.  She says they can't go to school without this form filled out.  I ask if my doctor can fill it out.  She then says let me look into this further I'll give you a call back.  She called back a few hours later and said we are good to register.  The school and I wasn't quite ready for them first day.  They had a bunch of paperwork and I couldn't find hardly any school supplies so we pushed their first day to the thirtieth.

Whew!  It was such a pain and a huge waste of time.  All they would have had to tell me is wait until you get here to do everything and it will be easier.  Ha!  Better luck next time!
