China Part 2

My first China post was getting really long.  I really should have just split it into days from the start, but I didn't realize that until I was practically done.  I still wanted to show some of the food we ate and some hilarious translations from Chinese to English, so I just started another post.

We ate a lot of food.  There was always more than we could eat.  They do their meals family-style, and almost every table had a turntable in the middle.  Every meal was Chinese food.  They even had fried rice and noodles for breakfast.  They eat a lot of duck in Beijing, so we had it a few times.

The most interesting thing we ate a couple of times was pigeon.  Yes, the pigeon you've seen out in your yard.  It was actually very juicy and tasty.  It is popular in Canton.  They put the whole thing on your plate, and you eat it starting with the legs.  While we were eating it, we heard a pig whining pretty severely, and Bo jokingly said, "are they killing that pig?"  Come to find out they were.  It was a bit disturbing and took way longer than it should.  But, I guess that's how it's done.

We also ate at the Canton Tower.  If you think the Space Needle is high, imagine at least two and a half stacked on top of each other.  It's 1615 feet tall.  The Space Needle is 605.
We found our favorite dessert for China.  I don't know what they are called, but street vendors sell them all over.  It is fruit on a stick covered with a candy coating.  It was so good.  The hard candy coating was so thin it almost melted immediately when it hit your tongue.  They can only have these in winter because they would melt in the summer.

They also made these with the same candy coating and blew it like glass.  

All in all, the food was delicious.  The only thing that served us that I didn't dare eat was bone soup.  The server said they'd make some bone soup from the duck we ordered.  I assumed it was like a bone brother and thought hmm that sounds kind of good, but when they brought it out, bone was actually ground up in the soup.  Bo tried it and realized that before I did, thankfully. :) :)

Thanks so much to our parents who took turns watching out kids.  It was so nice to leave knowing our kids were in great hands!!!
